Meet the Technician - Nate Webster

Certified Piano Technician in Utah Valley.

I started playing piano at age 10 and grew to love performing and accompanying choirs and church services. Funny enough, I spent two years in middle and high school trying to quit lessons—but thanks to my mom’s persistence, I stuck with it. (Parents, take heart—your kids might thank you later!)

I trained at the Minnesota School of Piano Technology and became a certified piano technician. After working for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints tuning pianos throughout Salt Lake and Utah Valleys, I launched my own business.

Being newer to the profession means I bring a fresh eye, extra attention to detail, and a strong focus on customer satisfaction. I love helping each piano sound its best—ready to inspire every player who sits down at the keys.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I tune my piano?

Pianos should be tuned regularly, between every 6 months and a year.

What causes a piano to go out of tune?

Pianos can go out of tune for a variety of reasons including changes in humidity or temperature, frequent playing of the piano, moving the piano, or stretching new strings.

What is a pitch raise?
A pitch raise is a process of bringing a piano back to its original pitch (A-440 Hz) before fine tuning. It's necessary when a piano is significantly out of tune, as tuning a heavily out-of-tune piano can be difficult and require multiple passes. Nate Webster Pianos never charges first time customers extra for a pitch raise!

Does a Piano need to be tuned if it isn't played regularly?

Yes! Even if a piano is not being played, it will still go out of tune due to environmental factors. Tuning it will prevent strings from breaking, improve its performance, and increase longevity.

What is the benefit of getting an in depth cleaning?

The action of the piano has a lot of moving parts. Build up of dust in these hard to clean places can cause keys to stick, dampers to malfunction, or other permanent damage. Having a technician do the cleaning reduces risk of damage, improves sound and playability,  provides access to hard to reach places, and helps preserve the piano's value.
